Glorify Your Health

Sometimes it feels as though poor health is being glorified. Things like “dad bod” are becoming increasingly popular. Or, women being told that it doesn’t matter their size; they should love themselves regardless.

But, I am here to ask you a question:
IF you truly loved your body, wouldn’t you want to treat it well?

Nourish it. Move it. Rest it.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

1 Cor. 6:19

I am by no means saying that you need to be a size 2, or have visible abs, to be “healthy.” Oftentimes, those things do not accurately indicate to how healthy a person is. I also think that the serious health implications that come with being overweight / sedentary are often overlooked, or brushed under the rug, in lieu of making people feel good.

That seems to be the trend of our culture today though, doesn’t it? Just do what feels good in the now, don’t worry about the long term.

Treat yo self, because YOLO!

I think this way of living has led us down a path to the obesity epidemic we find ourselves in. As a fitness professional that makes me sad. How can we flip the script?

I think we need to start by consistently speaking the truth. According to the CDC, “obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer that are some of the leading causes of preventable, premature death.” Read that last part again, the leading causes of “PREVENTABLE premature death.” If that truth right there doesn’t drive my point home, I’m not sure what else will.

“The food we put in our bodies, and the lack of movement combined is literally a death sentence.”

Instead of treating yo self to copious amounts of processed food, treat yo self to some veggies! Instead of YOLO-ing through another binge-fest on Netflix, sign up for a 5k! IF we want to be all God has created us to be then we need to stop neglecting the earthly body he has given us. We must stop self-destructing. Jesus did not sacrifice it all for us to kill ourselves slowly with Doritos and Little Debbies.
