Stronger Together

Garrett and Skylar came to 413 Fit Club in late January this year after being referred by a long-time member. When they started, they each had their own physical struggles and nagging aches & pains, which they hoped would get better as their health improved. They came for fitness, but found confidence, connection, and a whole new way of living — far beyond just “going to the gym.”

Garrett struggled for years with back and shoulder pain which had become a daily obstacle. He had limited mobility stemming from injuries in a car accident years ago and lingering effects from a few years of smoking daily.

“I used to be out of breath going up just one flight of stairs,” he admitted.

Garrett, like a lot of people struggled with consistency when it came to starting a gym routine. He would join the gym but just couldn’t stick with it.

As for his wife, Skylar, she struggled with the physical demands of her job as well as dealing with nagging low back and neck pain. She couldn’t even sleep through the night without waking up multiple times with pain or numbness in her hands and arms.

Then, everything started to change for Garret and Skylar. Through commitment, coaching and consistency they found results. One of their advantages of their journey has been having one another.

“We try to go to the gym together as much as possible,” Garrett says. “It helps us stay consistent.”

Garrett believes that his success is attributed to showing up to the gym consistently and our wellness coaching through basic habits like drinking water and walking more. He believes these changes are what started moving the needle for him. He now experiences little to no shoulder pain, has more energy and is getting stronger! Like, adding 100 pounds to his deadlift, stronger!

Skylar got a new perspective on nutrition, one that focuses on adding things instead of restricting them. She has enjoyed creating realistic goals and actually achieving them.

“I’ve done just about every weight loss program you can think of and always left feeling defeated,” she says. “But here, we set goals that felt possible—and built on them once they became habits. It made me actually enjoy the process.”

In addition to huge mindset shifts, Skylar now no longer wakes up in pain! Her sleep is better, energy is higher and she has a whole new outlook on her body, realizing how strong and able she truly is.

“Not only do I feel like I can keep up with work, I actually look forward to it now. That confidence is new—and powerful.”

Both Garrett and Skylar have grown to love the community at 413 and the impact it has had on their mental health. “Being part of such a special community is amazing,” Garrett says. “Everyone cheer n s each other on. I feel more confident in myself than I ever have.” Skylar agrees: “I like the challenge, and I love being in a space where that challenge is celebrated.”

Garrett and Skylar keep showing up and keep getting 1% better, learning to thrive in their daily life and getting stronger together.
